I think it would be interesting and very very difficult to have a GOOD Christian movie. You want the protagonist to be a normal, everyday Christian. Sure! That's awesome. The problem is that you want those who are not Christians to see an example. Obviously Christians are humans (or are they...o.O) and they make mistakes. You just have to find the right balance between not looking like fool, and not overly religious. People will judge it either way. I'm not saying it's impossible, I am not saying that at all. But it would be very very difficult to find that delicate balance.

Yes, but 'those' type of Christians are the only Christians the world sees.

Saved is a great movie.

"And it’s not like I’m against nudity, I’m the one who tried to institute “Naked November” at the Acuff house before we had kids. It’s just that I’ve got such a residual hangover from all the FILTH I ingested in my 20s that I don’t need to add more to my slowly SANCTIFYING soul."
That's the very DEFINITION of being against nudity.
What a TOTAL idiot.

I love the way someone can insist that "cussing and nudity are not required to make something seem natural" when they are both in fact present in the real world, so any natural depiction of those parts of our world should include them. The only way to avoid them while still maintaining a natural presentation is to avoid the parts of life where they would occur, and THAT is exactly what's wrong with self-censorship: you are avoiding the parts of life you are uncomfortable with.

As for "personally attacking people", I didn't attack anyone personally. I did make negative remarks about people who promote censorship. If you're one of those people, then too bad.

Interesting tidbit, "THOSE" kind of Christians are, guess what... can you guess it? Here it comes...!

NOT CHRISTIAN.

Seriously people. It's like believing a little boy in a dress is a girl because he says he is.

It seems to me that "Christian pop culture" indulges in an problem that corresponds to the Christian Crisis character. How often do we see Christian movies where anyone who finds Christ through the course of the film suddenly watches all their worldly problems and issues melt away?
I think if back off on the subtext "I found Christ and now I am perfect" the world might back off on the subtext "If you found Christ you must be a secret serial killer."

One more thing; you talk about "dismissing ideas" before they are considered, but what are the ideas? I haven't seen any valuable art come out of the Christian film industry. Admittedly, it is a small industry, but many small film companies with less funds produce better art. And the idea of cutting all the cuss words out of otherwise objectionable films seems a little silly (I mean, really, cutting all the cuss words out of The Hangover? How would that possibly make that film Christian?). So what are the ideas?

Here's mine: art is necessarily messy. It can't be contained. People sin and their sins make for compelling stories. Art is about storytelling. Sometimes the road from beginning to end is not as straight-and-narrow as would be Biblically appropriate. To try and make narratives that are not challenging to the viewer would be-- yes--tantamount to the death of art.

To be honest, I am not sure if Christian art exists or if it even can exist. The Author is someone who is attempting to wrench creative control over something-- essentially, playing God. Any attempt at art is an attempt at immortality. Eventually, all great art is about the tension between the author and his attempts to overcome his mortal limitations. Conversely, devotional "art" (if you can call it that) gives up ego and genius and lays it at the feet of God. I have become nearly convinced that the two cannot be joined in any authentic way.
