One simple phrase: STOP COMPARING YOUR FAITH TO THE FAITH OF OTHERS. God isn't going to judge you according to someone else's faith, nor is he EVER going to look at you as though you're not good enough. Jesus made you good enough. 'nuff said.

What an awesome post. Just back from a week with the lovely wife (NO KIDS!!!!!) and was catching up on my SCL. Your topic really touched me and helped me stop a minute to see that I too am struggling with living in my not-so-good past.

Great message for myself and I'm sure many of us.

This came at a great time in my life - and was perfect as a way to gain perspective - the guy I'm dating is having a rough go of it due to some things from his past haunting him. This will be great for him to read and help him understand.
Well done, you.
Thanks Jon.

WOW. this is just one of those things that you hear all of the time, "you are forgiven" "God forgives you" excreta, yet every time it gives me goosebumps. Thank you for this. It is so amazing and should be told to everyone, everyday.

"I think satan wants us to think our past is fixable. God wants us to know our past is forgivable."
this stopped me dead in my tracks.
If we could just stop listening to the lies that satan tells us we would be free to listen to the father that has plans to help us and not harm us.

an amazing article. an amazing website. an amazing God.

Good, good words.

I am a fixer. I try to fix my own problems, my circumstances, my wife, my kids, my parents, et al. And you know, the more I try to fix anything, the worse it gets. (well, not necessarily worse, but it doesn't get fixed) When I learned that I am no good at fixing things, especially things that aren't mine to fix, and began getting help to fix things, it was then that they actually got fixed right. Car troubles? Let the mechanic fix 'em. Trouble with relating to my wife? Open up and talk with her. Seek counsel from close friends or my pastor. Kids having a bad-attitude day? Read a good parenting book or blog. Sin got me down? Go to God. Repent and be forgiven. My effort at fixing things that I have no business trying to fix is what gets me into the fix in the first place. I'm glad God didn't leave me to fix my stuff that only He can fix through His forgiveness.

For a guy who's struggled to feel like a real writer and a real Christian, you do quite well at both!
