In November, I’m speaking at the National Outreach Convention in San Diego. The topic I’m covering is the intersection of faith and film. The movie I’ll be focusing on is “Man on Fire.” Turn back if you don’t want the end spoiled, but here is something I’ve written about it before and a video clip of the final scene which to me is a powerful reflection of the Christ story.

I’m curious, who would you say is the best, currently alive Christian writer? Best is a broad term and you can define it any way you like. “Living,” less so. And I assure you this is not like that time I wrote, “Who is the next Donald Miller?” As a prone to kick me in the butt friend pointed out, that was an ego move I did so that people would say “you are Jon.” Ridiculous. This isn’t that.

Who do you think is the best currently not dead Christian writer?

(A guy named Ben made a good point. We should also discuss who would be the best “undead Christian writer” or “Christian zombie author” if you will. CS Lewis, clearly.)

I once had a job where a manager fell asleep during a training course. We paid tens of thousands of dollars to bring in some experts to train us and in the back row of the conference room he was sprawled out in his chair sleeping.
