I always feel like I've done stuff no one else has ever done. Sex outside of marriage? I bet I'm the only one to fall for a promise by a guy I loved. Drunk at a party? I bet I'm the only one who fell for the line that says this is the way to have fun in college. Then I read something like this and I just laugh at myself...probably the way God laughs when I sit down and say, "alrighty. Here's how I messed up big time today. Hopefully it's nothing that's too big for You to handle"

I agree with you, "discipline is a by product of grace".
But the label "sin" does not apply to Christians as we are righteous through Christ. It is no longer I that lives but Christ lives in me Galatians 2:20.

Consider 1Pet4:18 "if the righteous are scarcely saved, where will the ungodly and sinner appear?"
This shows 2 different groups of people.
Group 1: Righteous
Group 2: Ungodly and Sinners
Clearly you cant be both.

1John3:6-9 even says Christians "CANNOT SIN".

Why does God say Christians are not sinners?

We should use God's definitions of sin to understand this. Mans definitions are ambiguous and cause error.
. They prefer man’s ambiguous definitions and then fall into error.

God’s definitions of sin are basically covered by:

1: Mark3:29 Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
Christians do not commit this sin .

2: John16:9 Unbelief in Jesus.
Christians do not sin here either.

3: 1John5:17 “all unrighteousness is sin”
Christians are righteous through Christ so here we do not sin.

4: Rom14:23 “whatsoever is not of faith is sin”.
Christians are justified by faith so here we do not sin.

5: 1John3:4 “Sin is transgression of the law” ( This is breaking the 10 commandments which results in a death penalty ).
Christians do not sin here as we are no longer under the law of sin and death. We were SET FREE from it Romans 8:2.

Regarding the law of sin and death it should be noted that “whatever the law says it says to those who are UNDER IT” Romans3:19,20.

But “the law was NOT MADE for a righteous person (Christians), but for…the ungodly and for sinners” 1Tim1:9

So regarding Christians, we have been crucified with Christ and Christ lives in us (Gal2:20). We are set free free from the law (Rom8:2), and “where there is NO LAW there is NO TRANSGRESSION (SIN)” (Rom4:15).

Of course we still see Christians doing wrong (erroneously referred to as sin by man's ambiguous definitions), but as sons of God we are disciplined for our wrong.

Rom6:2 asks “HOW shall we that are dead to sin, live in it any longer?”

1John3:9 answers this question.
“Whoever has been born of God DOES NOT SIN, for His seed remains in him; and he CANNOT sin, because he has been born of God”.

Christians are righteous through Christ. We are in God's love where we are disciplined for wrong doing.
For those rejecting Christ they are the sinners and the wages of sin is death.

God's love and God's grace are not the same thing. I wrestle with this fact when I read Galations 5:4 and 1 Peter 5:12 and see that it must in fact be possible to fall from grace. Otherwise, why put that language in the letters anyway? If it's not possible, why write it in black and white? My take is that you can't out-sin God's love, but we must be serious about our Faith (Ephesians 2:8) and so retain Grace. I'm sure that perspective is not the Stuff Christians Like though.

Love it! We sometimes forget that the bible is full of people that don't deserve the love God shows them. Peter, Paul, David, Moses - these were far from perfect people. They became giants historically...

Well said, Jon. As a repeat offender myself, I have to admit there are times when I've felt like I'm still at the beginning of my walk with God, still doing the same things I should be long past, after being a Christian all these years.

God is gracious and will continue to forgive when we confess our sins to Him. But, is it possible that, by being a repeat offender, I am spending time traveling the same route when God is patiently waiting to show me amazing new roads and places to travel? Is it possible that, by going back to my own vomit, I am filling myself with the same old, same old, when God wants me to taste the splendid feasts and desserts He has in store for me? Yes, He is patient and He will continue to forgive... But is it possible that, with a little more discipline on my part and His grace and strength (and sooner, rather than later), I can move past the old me and into the new me He knows I can be?

I may be asking questions you have already addressed in your post, but if there are any you have more answers to, or wish to expand on, I'm all ears (eyes?)!

What amazes me is that when we believe that it is possible to "out sin" grace, we try to Jesus right back on that cross. How many times must He die for us for it to take effect?

What I have found is when we look to define the grace line it is rarely for our brother's benefit. More so for our own self righteousness. When we get a small glimpse of what He did for us, we will never look at our brothers and sisters the same again. We will only look at how pathetic we really are and how we need Him more than ever. That is real freedom. Thank you Lord!!!

Attention Hall Grace Monitor:

Holy Spirit called... He wants His "I am God" badge back!

It is equally funny and upsetting how self righteous Christians can get in a blink of an eye. As if we can come close to reading the hearts of people around us accurately. Heck! We can't get our own hearts under control.

God's God... I'm not... You are not... He is bigger than my grace withdrawals. If He can call me to Himself in salvation, I'd put my money on the fact He can call me from any sin I throw at Him.
