I visited a church that was trying to get money for its building fund. The church was already in a substantial amount of debt, but they were trying to explain how you should give them more money for them to be able to get a loan for more debt. (Do we have an SCL: Church Building Debt?) The entire sermon was about giving your money to the church and helping it grow. The TSR was each family got to take a brick home. A literal brick- the heavy kind. Unfortunately, a lot of kids took a brick each (to beat each other with, of course)and some families at the end didn't get one...

I've got some new ones- these are from InterVarsity staff. We all need an Abigail in our life who will come to us with the truth and stop us from doing something stupid. She came to David with rasin cakes... we all got a small box of raisins and were asked to give the raisins to someone else, asking them to be our Abigail and giving them permission to speak truth into our lives. Second, cookies that were handed out and eaten after the intro to the talk. Yummy cookies, but that was it. Then the talk was about craving pure spiritual milk. Boo yah!

Once on a youth retreat we all got small white flag upon which we wrote what we were surrendering (get it?) to Jesus. It was actually a pretty powerful TSR!

The ones I've seen tend to be fastened with a pretty flimsy aluminum pin. That means they often have a little warning stamped into them "Not to be used for overhead lifting" or the like. Yeah, that's a great metaphor there: Trust Christ. But, uh, not over your HEAD, okay?

"Something better's coming." From being told "keep your fork" at a church dinner, because it meant there would be cake. I personally think this is an unhealthy obsession with what is, in fact, a fairly mediocre dessert, but there you have it.

That's hilarious. Mainly because it's true. "Oh yeah, I remember those!" "What did they mean?" "Um, I seem to recall it was something about God."

My parents' Protestant, Anabaptist church gave away kits to make a set of prayer beads at the Good Friday service this year. There were no instructions and there was a card with "prayer points" that were not well formed and were pretty much unprayable.

A dollar bill to remind us to use our talents and not hide them like the third guy did in the parable.
