24 Hours of Prayer on Stuff Christians Like

This Saturday, March 13th, we’re having a 24 hour day of prayer. From 7AM eastern on Saturday morning until 7AM eastern on Sunday morning we’ll be praying. We have two time slots that need to be filled and if you’d like to jump on one of the other ones, that would be great. Just comment on this post with what time you’d like to pray. If you’re praying during that hour, there are over 300 prayer requests from readers on this post. You can also leave prayer requests on this post as well.

So, how can we pray for you?

Christian Greeting Cards

A few weeks ago, a greeting card company asked if I would ever think about doing a line of Stuff Christians Like greeting cards. The answer to that question my friend, is “yes.”

Read the introduction to the Stuff Christians Like book.

I believe you know my opinion on the Stuff Christians Like book. (I believe you should buy it at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books Christian etc.)

But if the $8 price tag and chance to win a free macbook pro are not enough to convince you, I thought you might want to check out the introduction to the book. I took a photo of it. Here you go:

Telling someone they shouldn’t tell you about their fast.

A few weeks ago, I went out to dinner with two friends. One of them was doing the Daniel fast. I’m a little fuzzy on the details but I think part of the fast involves not eating lobster. I might be wrong.

When he told me that he was doing a fast, I had a chance to be kind and compassionate and other words that mean, “Not a jerk.” I opted against that and in doing so deserved to be put on blast on Stuff Christians Like. Why do I say that?

Because I said what punk Christians the world over do when someone tells them they are on a fast:

4 things worth checking out.

Four of my friends are releasing fresh/honest stuff this spring. I am a fan of all of them and think you will dig what they do as well.

1. Ben Arment – Church in the Making: What Makes or Breaks a New Church Before it Starts

2. Pete Wilson – Plan B: What Do You Do When God Doesn’t Show Up the Way You Thought He Would?

3. Jason Boyett – O Me of Little Faith: True Confessions of a Spiritual Weakling

4. Carlos Whittaker – Ragamuffin Soul

Each one is worthy of a read or a listen. They are all creative men of God who challenge me in what I do and how I do it.

Boomerangs.

I only shaved a vanilla Ice inspired “rap stripe” in my eyebrow once.

I only almost killed myself skateboarding once.

I only got busted by the police for shoplifting once.

If I think about it, there are a handful of mistakes I have only made once. But for the most part, if I am honest, I tend to boomerang a lot of my sins. I’d like them to be “one and done,” an action that’s undertaken one time and then forever forsaken, but often I come back for a second go round.

1 easy way to understand culture.

A few days ago, I had the chance to connect with the guys over at churchmarketingsucks.com. If you’ve never checked out that site, it’s worth a visit. One of the things we talked about was how people can get better at understanding culture.

I think there are a million ways to develop a better cultural awareness and I’m certainly not an expert. But I did learn one thing a few years ago that forever changed the way I look at culture. And it’s simple. Here it is:

Dogs at church.

On January 6th, we came together as a community. (Though I am apprehensive of overusing that word, in this case it applies.) We pulled together, as friends and family members spread across the country. We, much like the oft mentioned Newsies, opened the gates and seized the day. What do we rally against? What force of evil did we thwart?

Pastors who mess you up.

I ran into a friend a few months ago. We hadn’t seen each other in a while so we did the mandatory “life summary” catch up conversation. In the midst of that, she all too casually mentioned, “My husband and I have decided to become foster parents.”

What? That’s a big deal, that’s no small thing. And when I asked her about how they came to that decision, she was quick to give me a two word answer:
