SCL book is available!

Open the gates and seize the day … the Stuff Christians Like book is now officially available.

Two years to the exact date that the site started, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and several others started selling the book online. I’m not sure if it’s stores yet but it should be soon.

Why buy it?

1. It’s cheap. Only $9! You can get one for you and a friend for under $20.

2. It’s a great Easter, graduation or “I know you like funny things” gift. (One pastor bought 30 copies.)

3. It’s got 80 new essays, 40 classics and 40 illustrations.

Want to help support it?

1. Tweet – “I got the Stuff Christians Like book from @prodigaljohn – Check it out http://bit.ly/bMYGTm #SCLB”

2. Write a review on Amazon.

3. Blog about it, mention it on Facebook, email friends, tell people on the street etc.

Normal SCL programming will resume tomorrow. But for today, thank you. As I’ve said before, without you, this book doesn’t exist.

Let’s soak em’ for Crutchy!

2 Years of Stuff Christians Like

Tomorrow marks two straight years of Stuff Christians Like. It started because I always thought it was weird the way we put a God spin on popular secular ideas. Got Milk becomes Got God, Adidas becomes Add Jesus etc. I thought it would be fun to talk about that situation by committing that situation by copying the concept between Christian Lander’s site, Stuff White People Like.

Gambling is horrible. It’s an addiction. It will wreck your life, make you throw all your money away and perhaps worst of all, it encourages you to spend time in fake river barges off of the coast of Mississippi. I like Mississippi but those boats are nonsense. And when you go to a casino and lose your money in the first five minutes you have to try to trick waitresses into giving you free drinks. When you see them coming, you hover closer to a blackjack table in the hope that they will assume you are playing, that you are perhaps an international gambler like say Roger Dalton, the best James Bond ever.

Wait, what?

In a move that was completely a surprise to me, Amazon and Barnes & Noble pushed up the availability date of the Stuff Christians Like book. It will now be available on March 23. As in Tuesday. As in prepare yourself for an epic Newsies themed post next week.

Some folks already got it in the mail. Some Kindle folks got it wirelessly delivered today. Crazy.

Skipping parts of the Bible.

Even as I typed that headline I could hear the crackle of righteous lightning headed my way. It sounded like Rice Krispies cereal a little, not Fruity Pebbles, which is the breakfast equivalent of Fruit Stripes gum, fading into a gray mush the minute it gets within a ten foot radius of milk.

One of those moments.

I’m having lunch with my friend Ken Coleman today. He’s one of the hosts of the Catalyst Conference and he’s in this video. In it, a young man from Kenya who was sponsored for years via Compassion International, unexpectedly meets the father who sponsored him. It’s a powerful piece and a moment I was glad to see last year at the conference.

Worst. Cat Adoption. Photo. Ever.

I took the photo you’ll see after you hit continue yesterday. It was hung up on our community message board near the pool in our neighborhood. It was a homemade sign about a cat adoption. The rest of the sign was not sarcastic or funny and the other photos were cuddly, so I assume the person who posted this was not trying to be funny. I could be wrong.

Though it has nothing to do with anything on this site, it’s funny, and I feel like funny is one of our core values. (Didn’t I sound all corporate there? Like we were going to push the envelope and collaborate on our synergy?)

I would love to hear what your caption would be for this hell cat in the comments.

Leprechauns.

With the Stuff Christians Like book coming out in about two weeks, there’s the temptation to play it safe. To “coast” if you will, avoiding the tough topics for fear that you will insult people and lose potential sales. But, to tell you the truth, I ain’t going out like that. I’m going to continue “leaning into” the controversial subjects that need to be addressed:
