Today is the day.

That’s it. Comment to enter. And to be extra awesome, tweet one of the following things:

or

“I bought the literary equivalent of a side hug today. http://bit.ly/8YLJrV from @prodigaljohn”

p.s. Technically since I have no way of knowing who actually pre-ordered the book, this is all honor system based and there’s no purchase necessary to enter.

24 Hour Prayer Event on Stuff Christians Like

I am always surprised and overwhelmed at the number of prayer requests that flood in when we ask each other, “What are you praying about right now?” on this site. Hundreds and hundreds of people pour out some very real prayer needs every time we do that.

So here’s what I’m thinking: What if we did a 24 hour day of prayer on Stuff Christians Like? Starting at 7AM on a Saturday in February, we’ll pray for 24 hours. Nick the Geek will set up a google doc so that people can volunteer for certain hours ahead of time. The week before, we’ll do a post where we ask for prayer requests. And then when your hour comes, you’ll pray through the requests that have been posted in the comments.

My thought is that we could literally have thousands of people from dozens of countries around the world praying for each other and I feel like that’s the kind of thing Stuff Christians Like should be doing.

What do you think?

You in?

David Crowder & Michael Hogan Guest Posts

(This is a guest post from David Crowder and Michael Hogan. They are famous musicians that have hilarious senses of humor and apparently kindness too, because they are about to drop the biggest guest post ever.)

Hi. This is Hogan and Crowder, and we want to welcome you to our guest-blog here at SCL. Before we continue, perhaps some introductions are in order? Mike Hogan and David Crowder play in a band together called, conveniently, The David Crowder*Band. It is called this because David is the lead singer, the “front man” if you will, in the band. So right off the bat there should be one thing that is totally obvious: We are awesome at picking band names. There are two other obvious things that we should point out. 1) Note the definite article that starts the band’s name. It is a recent addition, seeing as how for the first 9 years or so we, as a band, concerned ourselves greatly with such quandaries as, “what if we aren’t the only David Crowder Band out there?” The fact is we didn’t want to be presumptuous. And so we were adamant about the definite article’s exclusion. But we’ve been at for a while now without incident, so we felt justified in its formal inclusion. Also, it looked really good in the font we wanted to use on our new website. And 2) There is an asterisk in our name. It is a detail full of mystery and obscurity (this, according to Wikipedia), and we are not going to get into it here.

Now $7!

I wasn’t going to write about the Stuff Christians Like book today because I went B.A.N.A.N.A.S. about it yesterday, but then I saw that the price dropped overnight.

It’s now only $7.79

There are some combo meals at fast food restaurants that cost more than that. If you were waiting for the price to go down, buy low/sell high etc. or you have only $7.79 in your Dave Ramsey inspired budget, today if your lucky day.

We’re at #66. Just beat Twilight.

As I imagined it would come to pass as a wee child, it came down to us vs. the vampires, but I’m happy to announce we’ve now vanquished the book Twilight. Stuff Christians Like is now #66 and Twilight is #68.

We’re almost in the top 10.

Almost there, SCL is #95.

Oh snap, we’re getting close. The Stuff Christians Like book is now #95 on the Amazon best sellers list.

If it hits top 10, we’ll give away 2 Apple iPads instead of just 1. Almost there!

2 iPads from Stuff Christians Like!

Right now the Stuff Christians Like book is ranked #289 on the Amazon bestseller list. The number changes hourly so it might not stay that way for long, but that is absolutely crazy and I can’t say thank you enough. (You guys are blowing me away with your generosity.)

I have an idea though.

If the book hits the top 10 in the next 48 hours, I will give away not 1 but 2 iPads. That’s right, two folks will get the new Apple iPad as well as the advanced copy of the Stuff Christians Like book.

The ranking for the book is toward the middle of the page on Amazon if you want to check it out and follow along today.

Let’s see if we can hit the top ten. Tweet it, facebook, whatever, I think we can do this.

Here’s the phrase to tweet:

“I bought @prodigaljohn Stuff Christians Like book, which is so Christian it’s like tithing & I might win an iPad! http://bit.ly/bNzGbQ”

Pretending you care about community.

There are 9 houses on the cul-de-sac I live on in Alpharetta, Georgia. It’s a small little neighborhood and for the most part friendly. That is until a few months ago.

After a short trip to the grocery store, we pulled into our driveway at the top of the cul-de-sac. Two hundred feet away in the bottom of the cul-de-sac, at the part where the circle opens wide, was a neighborhood party. Several heads looked up from their barbecue grills and beers to see me mouth “Oh snap!” from the driver’s seat. I quickly pulled in and assessed the situation.
