I was just about to go do my "magic" when my wife pulled this up and told me to read it. Thanks. I'll try and be less enchanting. This is actually the first time that I have allowed "structure" back into my life since I abandoned religiosity several years ago. It is time, though, for some daily disciplines. :D I just need to go get my unicorn saddled up...

It is strange how hooked we are on feelings. We know we are suppose to walk by faith. We are told in sermons again and again that feelings aren't what really matters. I have taught these things many times. YET when I find myself in a season where feelings have fled I can feel as if God has abandoned me. You would think after walking with the Lord for 30+ years I would learn that silence is alright.

Sorrows of Young Werther? What a TERRIBLE book! I felt like I was reading the diary of a 14 year old girl, not a 25 year old 1800's German man!

But whatever points you lost with Werther, you gained with fantasy. Christians practically invented the Fantasy genre, and we continue to excel at it.

I have scanned the comments here, and I don't believe that anyone has pointed out that Robert Jordan died in 2007 having not finished the final novel in the Wheel of Time Series!

As good as they are, I wouldn't recommend 'getting into them' at this point as you may never know how they end.

Becky, don't know if you've ever run into guys who date lots of women, because they like the feeling of falling in love? They write poems, write songs, stand on top of buildings and declare their love. But, when the feeling fades, they think they aren't in love any more - break up and find someone else they can write poems, songs and stand on top of buildings for. Had the serial dater known how much richer mature love is, he would have never been satisfied with being twitterpated (thank you Bambi for one of my favorite words!) Sometimes, that's what goes on with us and God too. We think that if we aren't always all emotional about God, then our love has grown cold or lukewarm and we just dread that we're about to be spat out. Truth is sometimes we just need to seek God and not the feeling. Resist the tempation to find good material for your ministry when having personal Scripture readings. Throw out the quiet time thinking. Yes, have a time of peace for reading, prayer, worship, listening and the like. But, start thinking spending "quiet time" all day long - at work, school, office, internet...

I love this! I actually find God touches me when I don't expect it. Watching a group of inner city teens and kids from a group home do hip hop dance at an after school program and I tear up cuz' I feel God there. And I thank Him for that. Talking to him while I drive, praying a simple prayer with my kids before bed, in those moments, that's when I feel Him present. When I sit down in the morning to read the word and pray, if I feel Him or not can't be what makes or breaks it. THAT I have learned after 25 years of being a Christian.
