This is a super late comment, but just to encourage you, once I was at a conference years ago where i heard almost the exact same message preached twice in a row and it really impacted me because I needed to hear it so much, but the first time I was hard-headed and didn't really let the word of God into my heart. The next day when almost the same thing was preached it made me think that just maybe God really wanted me to believe in that message, that it was meant specifically for my life, which really gave me hope. :) There were probably a lot of people that really needed to hear that message more than once.

Great post. I read in one of the comments that you said another theme at Catalyst was the importance of impacting just one life, and that really touched me. I'm going to school to become a teacher and I want to make a change in this world, but I've had it in the back of my mind until recently this thought of "What if I only am able to help a few children--how is that changing the world? Is this really what God wants me to do with my life? Maybe He has some bigger, better plan for me (for me, because it's all about me, me, me as you artuculated)" But these last few months I've been realizing how ridiculous (and prideful) that is, thinking that somehow reaching out to children that God puts in my life is not "big" enough for me. If God has really planned that I am going to be a teacher (and with the way teaching positions are being cut right and left, getting a job will definitely be God's doing) then who am I to insist that it's not good enough? So thanks for your reminder that even impacting one life is worth it.

Let us decrease, so that He may increase, we should always have that mentality. But yes, it does get tangled some times. I actually wrote about something similar a couple of days ago, reminding myself and the readers that it's not about us, it's about Him.

Thank you for this. Thank you thank you thank you.

I'm blessed to be a part of a church plant at a university near Atlanta, and our mission statement in a nutshell is "Look, the Lamb of God." It's a great encouragement and reminder to put Him above all else.

This has been something He has been trying to impress upon my heart lately, learning its not about me at all, its all about Him. In ministry (I've been working in dance ministry for a bunch of years now...and learning that He can work when I think its has been awful has been a big lesson). And in life.

"Apart from me you can do nothing...." As if God actually needed our help and our perfectly prepared messages to change hearts... And as if our little selves could really mess up His plans....

And speaking of repetition, I have to say that God has really been working through your blog to drive home some truths in my life--thanks Jon!
