I am what happens when you take the best and worst of the Replica and the Rebel.
I take after my dad in his speaking ability and knowledge of scripture but then his anger and pride too.
I rebel against tradition for its own sake, hoping to help church be relevant to culture, but I also curse and hang out with the "wrong crowd"

As I mentioned in the PK gone wild post, as an ex-PK, I wasn't allowed to read mythology growing up. In college today, I'm studying Classical Lit (Latin/Greek) and Western Philosophy.

Despite such a worldly major/minor, many people at church (not where my parents attend) assume that I have this great knowledge of the Greek Bible, as if I'm at a spiritual advantage or that I read the GNT constantly, like some kind of half-cleric. Except I smoke, drink, and use profanity (not at church), so others think I'm the devil. One or the other.

Really doubt that. Your life might have sucked, and sure don't want to downplay any of it, but I'm betting it wasn't under a microscope with critics watching and commenting on your every move...

It goes WAY beyond parenting. It's parenting, how the church treats them and most importantly how that pastor ALLOWS the child to be treated by the church!

Like Ben at the beginning of these comments (I never jump in here quickly enough to have the stamina to read all the ones that precede mine), I am a PK/MK. I'm just chiming in because of that pedigree, not because I can think of any interesting stories off the bat. Most of them happen to other types of pastor's kids--I was some mix of replica and regular . . .

I am not a PK, but this had me in tears. My senior pastor has 4 sons. Our family pastor has 2 sons, and our youth pastor has 2 sons (preschool and toddler). You've got me in trouble. I will never be able to look at those kids the same again.
