As a Phoenix resident who went to college in North Carolina (Go Tar Heels!), I have an affinity for both. But I'd take the Chick's waffle fries over the Out's "fresh fries" anyday. Yuck.

The TRUE argument is who has the better shakes! I'm still undecided.

Good Lord, Del Taco? Forget in-n-Out which is darn good burger food, but we're talking about white meat here, remember.

You *have* to go to Rubio's and order fish tacos. To die for. (I'm pretty sure they have them in L.A.)

@dewde-I think it's because they're feeling so inadequate. They have in-n-out, sure, but that's just to try yo make up for not having an original What-A-Burger with Cherry-Lemon Sundrop and Witchdoctors. Mmm-mmm-good. And out of this world burgers. Sigh.

WV:alisted-that's a Hollywood word if I've ever seen one. Sorta fitting for this particular post, don't you think?

I cannot believe you intended to say that Del Taco would "rock his face off," indeed, I am quite sure you meant to say "rot your face off." Please, Jon, spare your face and stay away from Del Taco-it's another terrible taco stand. Find some nice family-owned and run taqueria and find a nice carne asada burrito-if they have it Jalisco-style. Otherwise, you may just want to stay away from the Mexican food.

I love that all of So Cal comes to the defense of In-N-Out. Holler! We are proud of our hamburger stand and when you make such a comparison, please expect outrage

Although, I have become a major Chick-fil-A fan living in Tejas.

Del Taco will probably rock your face off too.

I am greatly amused at how when you announce "I'm going to LA"… the commenting instantly turns into a debate about a which hyphenated restaurant is better than which.

Welcome in advance to Cali! If you go to In-n-Out, get a normal cheeseburger to see 'what it's all about' and then order a double-double, animal style, extra cheese. If you're brave you can get your fries well-done and/or animal style as well.

Normally, you would be right. Animal style always comes with onions...except when you say "no tomatoes". For some reason there's an acidic vegetable exclusion clause in the order taker's manual.

It states, "If the customer asks for no tomatoes, you must ask the customer if they would still like onions, for it may be likely that the customer has an allergy to the acidity of both tomatoes AND onions. After the customer states his/her desire to allow the onions to remain on the burger you MUST reiterate this in your order read-back. For example, 'So you would like a 3 by 3, animal style, no tomatoes, yes onions, fries and a large chocolate shake?' If the customer consents to the read-back, you may proceed."

...or something like that. I'm not sure why either, but everytime I say no tomatoes (and I always say no tomatoes, cause I'm trying to eat a burger, not go on a diet), they say, "no tomatoes, yes onions?"

Their strawberry shakes ARE pretty awesome though.

You don't have to ask for onions if you get it animal style; it includes grilled onions already. If you don't go to In-N-Out, you will regret it. And I'd recommend a double meat animal style with fries and strawberry shake, but that's just me.

In-N-Out. In-N-Out? That's what a hamburgers all about.

If you're going to do it, you might as well do it right...here's your order:

"I'd like a 3 by 3(like one-upping Noah), animal style, no tomatoes, yes onions, fries, and a chocolate shake."

If you don't die of a massive coronary, it will be the best fast-food dining experience you've ever had.

And don't worry, they use 100% cholesterol free vegetable oil, so it's all good.
