I know I am commenting about 2 years late, but I just love this post! I was homeschooled and loved it! I know families who just would not be able to stand it if their children were homeschooled and families who could not stand it if their children went away from them every day. I have two cousins who were homeschooled and have turned away from the Lord and family, (we are all still praying for them!) and I have cousins who went to public school and are two of the most godly young men I know. I don't have children right now, but I want to homeschool when I do, but I "judge" people who send their children to public or private school! Just like I can't stand Christians, with like a million kids, who judge people with only two(my family).
Keep up the good work! :)

I went to a private Christian school 1-6 grade. Then I was homeschooled for about a month, didn't really like it so I had my mom enroll me in public school (7-12).

The private Christian school I went to was really small (the also used the Abeka homeschooling program.

I really liked public school I loved the people and the teachers. Maybe that's just my personality...I like to meet new people and be around them!

I was homeschooled and my public schooled husband is constantly amazed at how little I know about history and science. Yes, many homeschoolers are freakishly intelligent, but those of us whose parents didn't know what they were getting into when they signed up for this homeschool thing are left with a lot of gaps in their education. The hubs and I plan to homeschool our kids by default, mostly because since I was homeschooled it just seems like the norm to me. But if it doesn't work out for one or more of the kids, we have no problem putting them in public or Christian school. We think that if our child is mature and wise and we are involved in their lives, they can go to public school and be surrounded by the influences of the world and be able to handle it. But if the child is easily influenced, not strong in the Lord, etc. we would be more likely to want to shelter them from those influences.

I am very involved in my son's life and he has struggled in school for the last 5 years. He's been in catholic school mostly, but because he was stuggling so much we sent him to our local public school last year because i thought he would get more help. He did worse and i was in a meeting every month trying to figure out what to do next. he's back at the catholic school this year and we are very involved with school ( & church not catholic but christian)and he still is struggling. its upsetting when teachers think the kid is stuggling because of his home life, because in our case that is absolutly not true. my only last resort is homeschooling which i would love to do, but don't know if its the right decision.

I went to public schools and private schools. Private schools in elementary because then we lived in an area where there really was "just one" (to quote the school official who talked to my mom) gang in the 2nd grade, and where they were so happy to have me at their school so I could help the other students learn English. I think the only plus to me going there would have been that I'd probably speak better Spanish now...but luckily my mom decided that the extra cost for private schools were worth it, until 3rd grade when I got accepted to a public magnet school.

Then we moved to a place with the exact opposite public school situation. In Junior High and high school I got to go to a school in the California mountains that when they last were hiring for teachers had 200 applicants! Probably the main reason for that was that our school was in a resort area.,,,a gorgeous place to live with incredibly cheap housing (for California) but not much work opportunity. The schools and construction were the two main businesses.

Well, anyways, we had excellent teachers. Those schools were better than any of the private schools I attended.

My mom considered homeschooling but I'm glad she didn't. For some reason I just didn't learn things well with her. Nearly anytime she tried to teach me something (whether it was piano or how to sweep a floor) it would end with her frustrated and me crying. But I did great in school.

My wife is a Special Education teacher in the public school system here in Canada, and when she's confronted with what some parent's who homeschool say about the public system she makes a couple observations herself. In here experience she's found that kids who were previously homeschooled and then enter the public school system #1 think they are better than the other kids #2 have a hard time knowing how to interact with or show understanding to children with disabilities (mental or physical) or behaviour issues. Of course, these could be generalizations but it comes from both sides. The two points shown above is just what she's noticed over her years of teaching.

I am a high schooler at a Public School and I am thriving.

I feel that the school is not what causes a child to stray from the church. It is the heart. I am still truly faithful to my church, I serve every Sunday, I read my bible daily, on top of having straight A's this year.
Public School teaches us how to stand up for what we believe and learn to grow up in a wordly (non-babied) environment that prepares us to rely on our heavenly father to overcome that rude kid at school or that Evolution Exam. Public school has saved money for my family so that my family can vacation together and bond with eachother.

So I am so for Public Schools and believe 100% that children can live a full Christian life attending one.
