I am just gonna say that I do not think this is fair. It really sucks that this has been your experience, and I do not mean to downplay the cruelty and hypocrisy that you have seen, but I can honestly say that I do not know one woman at my church that married for looks. I just do not think it is fair to say that "most Christian women" go after Eliabs instead of David.

Also make sure there is a bible study with this ministry! Got to have a way to get them to attend weekly for something! Side events and all other things will come naturally and watch God work in this! Usually meets in someones house. When we met it was in a guys condo. God will raise some up who will offer their space to meet! Work close with your church for the structure of the bible study so as not to stray from it's beliefs and standards! Your Pastor I'm sure will agree to this! I have been to some groups where the bible was not so much centered around a singles group. Remember, you get God's blessing when it is centered around His word! Plant this seed and watch it grow! I know, because I am living proof! In Christ!

Google Elmbrook church here in Wisconsin. They will assist in your questions about starting one! Awesome singles ministry! All ages, all types (older/divorced/by age group) I went for years and met a guy there who helped get me a job which I have now had for 25 years and still going! Others have met and gotten married thru the bible study. And yes, the bible studies were great! Even took a short class there and received a partial college credit. Had many activities including softball/bowling etc... Oh, and by the way I don't drive but there were the most kind people I met who always managed to see that I made it back and forth! Met a girl that was room mate of one who picked me up regularly and we dated for about eight years. We eventually parted ways but clearly as friends (no bitterness), she married another and is happy but those years I will always cherish! Only in the body of Christ could it be that way! Hope this helps and all the best to you in getting a singles ministry/bible study started! Yours in Christ!

Don't know what my score is, but I thought the post was funny. :D My favorite is the one worth +10 points, the most of all. I read it and said, "YES!" I once flat out asked a seasoned member of my church's staff why Singles pastors are never single and his answer was that the church doesn't want them to be a distraction to the single women. Umm, since when does that make women not interested? And what if the Singles pastor was married? He might get married. *Gasp!* Heaven forbid he get married....like...in the church. Scandalous. Another favorite of mine is when a teenager says, "I know exactly how you feel. Like I've been like single like forever." Or when a 23-year-old single person who has been through 12 lovers attempts to comfort someone who is single and has always been single and they are in their 30s, 40s, 50s or 60s. Just once I'd love to see a church actually pray openly and collectively for its single members who no longer wish to be. After all, God is the provider of wives and husbands. He is the perfect matchmaker. For those who are single and happy, more power to them, but some of us are just tired of it and we want to be married.

Whenever I read the part in 1 Samuel about how God tells Samuel that Eliab is not God's chosen king, I think of how Christian churches treat single men. God tells Samuel not to judge a man by his OUTWARD appearence because God judges a man by his INWARDLY characteristics. Yet, whenever I walk into a church of any denominational classification, the married men in my age group (30's) are always the stereotypical "tall, dark, and handsome" ones, the "Eliabs" if you will. Men like me (38, bald, average or below average build, etc.) don't seem to be, in the eyes of most Christian women, to be "fit" for marriage. They aren't looking for a "David", but a superficial Eliab-type. It's really disgusting hypocrisy. The churches don't see the inside of a man's soul, but what he's got materially and on the outside.
