nice try there Nathan, it's actually spelt 'quiche'. apparently it's French. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quiche
quiche is the British version of the crockpot I reckon, it's pretty common at most 'pot lucks' (which I would call a bring-and-share).
I've been thoroughly blessed at all my church meals, can't think of a bad one. There was a student event I went to once where I saw a liquid cheesecake...

haha, my small group has pot lucks, but because my small group leader hates the term "pot luck," he has forever deemed them "at table," because that's what Jesus did. :) Although, because my small group is made up of twenty-somethings and really cool married couples who have kids in college, there has yet to be a dish of shame :)

This is EXACTLY why you must only cook things you know YOUR FAMILY will eat, and make sure your husband is starving when you get there. I can count on mine to eat half of what I brought and talk it up to the folks in line, too. No shame for me. That, and only take things you like - and only eat yours. It saves you from the Pot Curse every time.

So funny! I have taught my own children (and my other "children" at church) that if a potluck dish is sitting ignored on a table, you should take some and put it on your plate - even if you are planning to sneak it into the garbage can later. I know from personal experience how sad people are when they work hard to make a dish that no one likes. I love the phrase "sympathy scoop" - what a great idea!

My mother always grumbles about the meager contribution of a certain rice dish that is a popular "contribution." It's just white rice cooked in beef broth with the tiniest amount of chopped onions. 1.6 servings in a tiny little casserole dish, ingredients costing probably 84 cents. It's cheap, easy, doesn't serve many people, doesn't taste very good, few people actually GET any on their plates, but somehow it keeps showing up -- sometimes there will be multiple entries of this popular dish!

I just happened on your blog for the first time today. (I think it was through a twitter link.) This post is hilarious, I really am laughing out loud! The comments are just as hilarious as the posts. I loved the comment from "Midnight Vagabond" about how people say "just" when praying.

wv: knists-what occurs when you get your knickers in a twist.
