I've been thoroughly blessed at all my church meals, can't think of a bad one. I can count on mine to eat half of what I brought and talk it up to the folks in line, too. No shame for me. That, and only take things you like - and only eat yours. I have taught my own children (and my other "children" at church) that if a potluck dish is sitting ignored on a table, you should take some and put it on your plate - even if you are planning to sneak it into the garbage can later. I know from personal experience how sad people are when they work hard to make a dish that no one likes. I love the phrase "sympathy scoop" - what a great idea! So funny! It's cheap, easy, doesn't serve many people, doesn't taste very good, few people actually GET any on their plates, but somehow it keeps showing up -- sometimes there will be multiple entries of this popular dish!
