Short Saturdays – Who needs our money?

Who needs our money this Christmas? Who, in addition to support all year, has a need that is heightened during the holidays? Post a comment and let us all know. In the meantime, here are three organizations I am inspired by:

1. Gethsemane Garden Christian Centre
In 2003, my uncle helped start an orphanage and school on Mfangano Island in Lake Victoria in Kenya. My wife and I sponsor children through this organization, many of which were orphaned when everyone they knew succumbed to the AIDs epidemic. (Tests on pregnant women in the area this orphanage supports show 60% are infected with HIV.) They currently have more than 300 students and are always in need of more support. 2. Compassion International
Growing up, my family sponsored a young boy in Zaire. This was probably the first time in my life I learned that the world was bigger than just the little bubble I lived in and it helped me see the needs of others outside of just my own. There are a ton of ways to support the amazing work Compassion International is doing. Click here to learn more.

3. 50000shoes.com
As I mentioned before, Anne Jackson, blog dynamo and upcoming author, partnered with Soles for Souls to raise money for 50,000 shoes in 50 days. It’s a neat, simple way to give someone a gift that’s really easy to take for granted, a pair of shoes. Click here to learn more.

What’s your cause? What’s your charity?
