Comments on: Leg dropping elves. (Or the real meaning of Christmas)

i introduced SCL to my oldest daughter this year via the SCL Audiobook. She was hooked–Christianity AND sarcastic comments in the same place?! golden.
–
now, as background: my mother strives each year to add precious Christmas memories to our morning gift-wrap-rip-fest. each year she asks all of her children and our kids to do a song, share a memory, or whatever.
–
throughout the Advent season our family has forced everyone visiting our home to listen to the entire “Elf on a Shelf post” read aloud to them by previously referenced daughter. each time we have all laughed until it hurt. so this year we decided to embrace my mother’s precious-Christmas-memories-making-time and therefore i took your “Elf on a Shelf post” and made it a script. (due to family size i had to lump all the shepherds into one character. but he has his own theme song, so i thought he would be okay with it.)

anyway–Christmas morning:
enthusiastically i told Gran that my family wasn’t dragging our feet and resisting her memory-making time. no, in fact, we had practiced ahead and we going to do a little play about the nativity! we knew that the “Elf on a Shelf post” was pure christmas cheer and had the bonus of theological depth. could it get any better?

alas, it turns out that Gran did not get the humor. and (Christian) Sibling #1′s family did not get the humor. and worse, (as-yet-unregenerate) Sibling #2′s family USE “Elf on a Shelf”, have met the author, and think it is a wonderful tradition. it was like our performance was grabbing their young boys by their lapels and yelling at them that there was no Santa Claus.

so there you go . . . just another testimony to the impact SCL has had on fragile family cultures the world over.

I love this… My friends had your book and I just loved it. I bought many copys for christmas pressents,and I even bought an elf on the shelf for a christmas gift exchange between our group of friends who all have your book. I think it is going to be the gift to have this year.

I've just found you blog and already I'm hooked. This has got to be the funniest thing I've read in a long time. Someone mentioned coffee through the nostrils, well it's night here and it was soda. OUCH! but well worth it. Thanks for sharing.

Let's spend some more time arguing about whether to say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays." I just know the Lord cringes everytime he hears the "HH" and has a wry smile every time it's "MC,"….particularly in light of the fact that the word "Christmas" does not appear in the Bible – and the word "merry" is frequently used in a pejorative sense. (Wow – look at Revelation 11:10 NKJV).

i am posting comment number 84. that means that at bare minimum 80 people have seen this post (stacy from l. probably commented more than once). 80 people from all over the world imagined this whole scenario out in their minds because of one crazy blogger. (you’re brilliant, jon, but a bit crazy.)
at least 80 people imagined what your fireplace and mantel look like. we pictured the size of the figurines who were (in our minds) smack talking one another on your hearth. that is amazing to me. you have a lot of power, acuff. a lot of power.

Oh, and using the same logic of the santa/satan thing, I would like to point out that “god” and “dog” have the same letters in them, so, obviously, dogs are gods and worthy of worship.

But .. we all know that can’t be true because if there are any animals that think they are worthy of worship, it’s cats, not dogs. Also using the same logic, I’m pretty sure “cat” is another way of spelling “satan”.
