I work for a national non-profit Christian station, and I can say first hand that there is no guilt involved. There is a lot of prayer, and a lot of trying to do what we feel God wants us to do. We are a huge company that's never been in debt, and employees often pay for office supplies out of their own pocket, just because they want to. If we were for profit, we would be restricted on what we say on air. Being for profit, provides much more benefit. Jon Acuff was interviewed on our station months ago. It's difficult to go on air to pledge for sharathons, but we do it 3 days, 2x per year, and it's a must to stay on air. I didn't come up with that on my own. It's the truth.

I work for a non-profit Christian station, and you'd be surprised that most will not advertise with Christian radio. They are an excellent company, but they will often advertise with other clear channel stations long before any of us. Plus, there are very few Christian organizations, and what little they may advertise isn't enough. Don't assume.

I grew up in the Dallas area, and so I'm going to guess you're talking about 94.9? The problem with Christian stations being for profit, is that they can be restricted on what they say and do, BIG TIME. I work for a non-profit Christian station, and we can say whatever we want, whenever we want. We have over 200 stations across the country, and we can talk about Jesus all day without reprimand. We can pray on air, with listeners, or whatever else.

A LOT of people don't know this, but when you are a non-profit Christian station, you get a lot more leeway on what you can do and say. There is a lot more freedom, which means most (to my experience) are sincere in their sharathons. Their hearts seem to be in the right place quite often.

you should listen to ksbj in houston. After thanksgiving ALL THEY play is 100% 24/7 christmas music until the day after xmas. Oh and funny thing, this is the only time you hear secular music on there. However, there are exceptions because none of these are played:
-a lovemonger's christmas – heart
-any chicago christmas album
-do they know its christmas- band aid (Bono is FORBIDDEN? He's a christian!)
-blondies latest christmas album (has away in a manger)

but they WILL play the carpenters! They suck.

I LOVE when they start begging for pledges over the songs that are playing. At first I thought it was my subconscious urging me to given, then I realized they were breaking in over the songs to catch you off guard.

Share-a-thons stink. I try to pledge early in the week as to head off the guilt trip.

I avoid our Christian radio station nearly all the time. I listen to either talk radio, BBN, or sports radio. My reasons are: the share-a-thon, lack of content from the Word, two minute prayer time in the morning (should be longer with all the burdens), and the music sounds more like the pop station than music that honors God.
