Jon,

A friend of mine, after listening to the struggle I am in at the moment with some relationships, ran to her office and emailed me your encouraging and timely thoughts on how we truly are never alone.
Thank you for taking the time to put your process and perspective into words.
Dear Jon:

Thank you so very much for this wonderful post. I have shared it with several friends and relatives, many of whom have been seriously touched by the profound ending.

Thanks for reminding us all that the Lord is close and coming toward us, even if we fail to chase after him...we just turn and He is ready for us at once.

God Bless You for sharing this one...

Best with gratitude,

Joyce S.

Thanks Jon. Faith and trust...God is always there for us, we need only remember. I know that in my life things seem to go remarkably smoother when I am working in concert with God's spirit. And I almost intuitively know and can feel when I'm not. Each day of my life is an ongoing attempt to work with Spirit. Somedays, of course, are better than others.

Dear Jon,

I was in Three Forks, Montana, imfreenow.blogspot.com/search?q=Three+Forks%2C+Montana in the summer of 2005, exactly on the day they landed, July 27. They were doing a reenactment, which gave me the opportunity to learn about the history of the Lewis and Clark expedition.

Lewis and Clark weren't terribly surprised by the mountains. They knew the Pacific was where it was and the mountains were sort of an expected setback in their adventure. They weathered the whole thing by their friendship with the Indians. Amazing the role the Indians played at this point. They helped Lewis and Clark and their men get new clothes, as their clothes had worn out on them. They harbored them through winter, and prepared them for the long trip over the mountains.

I guess what I am trying to say is, like experienced men setting out on an expedition of this nature, we ought to have a good sense of how far it is to our destination, and be prepared for huge setbacks, weathering them with patience, allowing others to help and nurture us, no matter how humbling it may be.

They in fact did get to the Pacific. It took longer than they expected, it was harder than they had originally planned on, but they were ready for whatever came their way and they got through it. They were stronger for the journey, learned incredible lessons and made lots of friends.
