I just had to say this- my mom is a pastor's wife and must have broken the mold. She's happy while managing a killer sarcastic sense of humor, she loves people while being able to tell the old ladies at church, "Yes, I do let my kids read Harry Potter, I'm their mother and that's my decision, thankyouverymuch." She has good boundaries with "church folk" while maintaining strong relationships with a few people she disciples- though she spends a good portion of her time with non Christian friends and coworkers (especially a few illegal immigrants who are teaching her to cook AMAZING Mexican food.) Last year, my mom donated a kidney to a complete stranger because Jesus called her to do it.

Can you tell my mom is my hero? Some pastors wives are just in the "incredible" category. :)

As one experienced, the PWs who don't let you get close are afraid. In three years or three months they will move to another ministry. They would like nothing better than a friend like you, but the pain of leaving you and starting over with the Friend Hunt has become more hurtful than not having a friend. They don't understand their preacher husbands who say "We'll just make new friends," any more than they understand how it was an adequate replacement when God gave Job new kids after the first kids all died. Don't be hurt by her standoffishness, but continue to be nice to her. She DOES appreciate it.

i made a horrible pastor's wife. i said things like, "either deal with it, let it go or stop bringing it up every week at accountability group because i don't want to hear it anymore." it wasn't popular. good thing my husband is no longer a pastor.

kalyssa, agree with you. Anon is a woman first. a wife and mother second. i understand your first ministry is to your family. you may not be called to minister beside your husband in the church. only to support him in whatever he is doing. i hate that you feel like you have to measure up to the expectations of the congregation. when you should be free to do only what you are comfortable with at any given moment. nobody is patient with their kids all the time. being honest and transparent is a good thing just be careful who you share with. continue to put God first. all of your other relationships will fall into place. knowing who you are in Christ makes you beautiful. You were created in his image. you are his treasured possession and the apple of his eye. it does not matter what you wear. to your husband you are worth far more than rubies. by all means runaway with him and leave the laptop behind every once in a while. there needs to be a balance between work and family.

Hold your ground. There is no reason why a church should get two for one salary. Your husband was the one who was called to the ministry. His response in a situation such as this could be to help educate people that you also were called. You were called to the publishing field.

I love how honest you are and I think that your comments stem less from being a pastor's wife and more from being a wife and woman and mother because its not easy. I know. God bless.
