O.k., so apparently you go to church to look cool and listen to a feel good, "I'm o.k, you're o.k." pep talk. Sadly, that's what American evangelical churches how evolved into, a massive treat and beverage-oriented,lack-of-substance, Sunday social hour. So much for having an attitude of reverence for the great I AM. Can't you be more prepared and have your coffee at breakfast at home? You can't make it through an hour of church without slurping on something to drink? It's all about you and your comfort, isn't it?

There's a counter in our front hallway at church that will be perfect for a coffee service. I'm going to put a sign overhead that says "We're not trying to be relevant; we just like coffee."

[...] Jonathan Acuff is to be believed, Christians have a special place for coffee in their hearts. Allow me to draw a comical analogy: many Christians love coffee but don’t really understand [...]

my old church has a cafe right outside the sanctuary. the Selah Cafe. they have MTO coffee, bread bowl soups, muffins, scones, everything. after church most people just stay there to eat. it's really quite convenient. not to mention a great money maker for the church. :)

It gets really edgy when communion is served. I sing in the choir so I get to see all those java drinkers out there trying to juggle coffee, Bible, tiny communion cup. Some regressive cave type figured it out: he tossed his communion cup(full) into his coffe cup and downed it. I know. I didn't believe it either. The discussion goes on. Like, when we stand before the throne, which is the proper hand to hold my coffee cup? The holiest brand? The best bean? Should I bring a cup to share? ON and on and on. I can't help myself. The guys (it's always a guy at my church) who goes for refills mid-sermon...I search him out after service to ask what he thought about that part in the middle of the sermon, quoting it to him). See how bad coffee drinking is for my spiritual well-being? BTW, it's been deemed inappropriate to drink coffeee in the chior loft because...wait for it.....we lead worship. HUH?! And yes, I've watched people clap their coffee right outta their cup. Messy, messy!

I realize this will never get read because it's a super old post. But! I have to say I thoroughly enough the "Way I See It" things on Starbucks cups. If anything, they can be great conversation starters, which, I think, is what they were designed for.

Not to say some haven't been very lame, but I like a fresh perspective on life from time to time.

Our church actually serves coffee in the lobby before and after church! Or is it the vestibule?
