I'm just finding your stuff--I know, a little late to the game. Ah well, better late than never!

Anyway, this reminds me of my first Sunday at boarding school. Baptism Sunday and a chubby 13 year old was up in the baptismal (about 20 feet above the pulpit) and he slipped and fell in the water (not over the side, fortunately!) and the school's founder's wife started laughing so hard she was shaking the pew. :)

That last move is called table-topping someone, and I fully support its use in baptisms.

Going through and reading all the the previous posts since I'm a very late-comer. This one reminds me of a particular event from my childhood when my dad was a pastor. It was baptism Sunday and our church had the baptismal that sits behind the stage in a sort of 'window' facing the audience. One particular guy was at least half a foot taller than my dad, and the baptismal was pretty small. In the process of 'dunking' him, the guy hit his head on the side of the baptismal, making the loudest noise ever. Thankfully he didn't drown (or have a head injury) and everyone had a good laugh about it(especially my dad) .

Infant Baptism. 6 out of 7 major Christian denominations can't be wrong! Salvation comes from God. He choose to save us before we came into existence. At infant Baptism, parents and sponsors (godparents) publicly commit to nurture the child's spiritual growth and they renounce the forces of evil and confess the faith of the church using the words of the Apostle's creed. The Early church also baptized whole families, regardless of age.
Don't worry, the denominations who baptize infants will also baptize any adult who has never been baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. But infant baptism: it solves the problem of being too tall, and it's a wonderful way to be welcomed into a community of believers and be nurtured in faith from the very beginning.
