I’ve always despised this phrase. I didn’t get it while dancing (no one dances anymore; they stand and perform the “choir side step dance” as they stare awkwardly at the walls and talk about the lameness of actually dancing); I got it while sitting on our church bus while our bus driver was trying to get it working again.

LOL it's true. Same here with the Reformation Day thing. I believe we had a version of "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" but more like "Pin the 95 Theses on the Door"

Apparently the church i went to as a teenager was a bit more progressive! I'll never forget our "choir tour" my junior year in high school though. Swing dancing was having it's five minutes of glory then, and we some of us were swing dancing in the fellowship hall of the church that was hosting our group that evening. The church ladies that served us dinner were horrified at our evil moves and ran to our youth pastor. He got on to us about it because they were mad, but we laughed about it all the way to our next destination.

I went to Liberty University which was founded by the late Jerry Falwell who was not exactly a small man. Liberty only officially allows hand holding (unofficially 3 second hugs which is an inside joke in itself now). Leave room for Jesus was a common phrase, until people realized Jesus was in their hearts. Over time it was lovingly changed to leave room for Jerry. Since he has passed, I'm not sure if that wording is still used, but it sure did make for good laughs and eased up tensions when it was said.

that is hilarious. i never dealt with that but then again… we never had dances. hmm
