I visited the church of a guy I was dating. I am used to my church having the order of the worship service being printed up so I knew what was going on and how I was expected to participate, the 3 scripture passages we were reading, weekly announcements and prayer requests, and basic info about who was leading our worship and communion policies. My church uses basic, matte photocopy paper.
The church I was visiting used the glossy stuff, and it looked more like a brochure for a tourist attraction, and didn't do much to get me through the service. I was not able to tell the difference between the two services, and I could only really tell you just a few of the people we were praying for. Everything else had stock photos and info about things I couldn't participate in since I was a non member. And it also had info that I would think belongs in the monthly church newsletter. Okay......

I completely agree! Or someone comes up to you and wants to talk to you later about something their going through so you want to write down their number or the time you'll be meeting them for coffee, but you can't. You might as well write it on your hand.

Yes! Thank you. I hate it when the bulletin is all shiny and full of hip activities and I can't take notes. I want to take notes. I need to take notes. I feel like I'm not paying attention if I'm not taking notes. It's possible that this is a result of my dad grading my sermon notes starting in the 3rd grade to "help prepare for college", but I don't think so.

My church has used the same, regular printing paper for the last 15 years at least. I run into the glossy paper when I'm on vacation and I go to a super church with my relatives or friends. I remember once getting a bulletin that felt like it was straight up photo paper. The ink didn't stay there, but you could see where I tried to write because it was scratched into the paper.

I should give this URL to the church leader who made me start using the Color Laser Gloss. Sure, it folds beautifully like no other paper I've ever used, but it does come out of the printer at approx. 250 degrees.

Maybe we'll even leave room for notes at some point!

This is especially a problem in our church because we use a wax-based ink. It looks really nice, but it scratches off the paper! Can make a really big mess - I quit taking notes on the bulletin just before we decided to stop printing them altogether - saved the church something like $7000 annually!

Dear North Point Bulletin Printer-
I think you do a great job. And fine your work to be fantastic regardless of it's possible aversion to the ink I so desperately want to add to it. I expect to see your A game next week at the Drive conference.
Jon
