#144. Wishing sin was not so fun.

There, I said it. Sin is fun. It is for the most part, pretty enjoyable at first. I mean we wouldn’t do it if it were boring or immediately painful or instantly depressing. But sometimes we Christians like to wish that we didn’t enjoy it. I have friends all the time that tell me things like “I just wish I wasn’t attracted to porn.” I think that’s a good aspiration. We’re called to hate evil and put to death stuff like that. (At the same time, God made the human form really amazing. It’s something beautiful we’ve corrupted, but there is undeniable beauty there and to say otherwise is crazy.) But if your plan for “not sinning” is eventually not “liking sin” then good luck.

And I think God is cool with us admitting that we are attracted to sin. I wrote about this recently when I came across Romans 12:9. That verse says:

Hate what is evil; cling to what is good

Good is hard. Sin is easy. Good is not always pretty. Sin is often hott (used the second t to sound young and hip.)

We have to cling to good because it’s not natural. It takes work and intentionality and focus. So let’s stop wasting energy wishing sin wasn’t fun. Let’s use that energy instead to cling.
