Call it what you want. I call it parenting. This works great on kids. If you can get them crying before the Amen, you WIN!

I have a friend who pronounceds "GAWD" normally, except when he prays. Then he takes on some accent and says it more like "GAHD." I don't think he's being pretentious, but it's certainly interesting to wonder why that happens.

While eating out one time, there was family sitting next to us who had a couple small kids. As soon as they sat down the kids started downing fries as quickly as they could. The dad started their meal time prayer asking God to bless their food, especially the food already in their mouths. It was quite funny.

[...] Praying at People is also funny, but has a serious side to it. Using prayer to manipulate people is “not cool” as Jon says on his blog. This has happened to me a lot. The worst experience I had with this was when I was about 14-years old at camp one summer. Saying that she wanted to pray for me, an adult leader took me aside to tell me that God had told her I wasn’t really saved. It caused me quite a lot of turmoil and haunted me well into adulthood. Although I had a little chuckle reading that post, it pricked at that scar.
