Yup. Locally it’s “Lord.” “Lord, we come to you, Lord, to ask your blessing, Lord. We need your guidance, Lord, because, Lord, we are lost without you, Lord…and on and on and on. I can’t figure out if they’re not sure who they’re talking to, or if they think He might not be listening.
The bad thing is, some people do this in conversation. They call you by name at least once per sentence!

we also like adding God’s name in places where it doesn’t make sense when we run out of, or can’t think of, anything to say.

One I get all the time is “Father”. I don’t say just or Father a lot, of course, but a close friend of mine does, and I started picking up on it after reading this.

This happens in my church as well! We also seem particularly fond of the word ‘Father’. Clearly this word is totally appropriate in prayer but once it’s said 4 times in a single sentence…

To be sure, a person’s prayers should be above our criticism. God will understand with a hundred “justs” no “justs” or repeated calls on the deity by name. When leading public prayer (even if only 2 or 3) try to keep your repetitive habits from being a stumbling block to those in front of whom you are making your prayer. If you disagree please just forgive me.

I’m a teacher so I have a very highly tuned radar for the repetative word syndrome. It can be; umm, ok, so… in prayers it is definately Lord, Jesus, just, etc
