*BAM* You just got Jesus Juked, Jon!
Maybe the idea was inspired by another person or place. What of it? Aren't most people's ideas inspired by reading books, listening to music, having conversations, etc. Oh, the judgement is thick in this place. Carry on, Jon. Maybe you could blog about how absurd it is for women to talk on their cell phones in public bathrooms. You can steal my inspiration there.

I like that you almost do seem to have a decent idea of what post-modernism is, but there are a few things you clearly don't understand. First of all, plot-modernism in relationship to the church is in a large part understanding the culture, and engaging the culture. I have said this before, and I will say it again, going up to someone, anyone really, and saying Jesus is all you need, is a really poor way to share your faith. By really poor I mean this is a good way to push people away, this kind of person is what pushed me away. In previous generations you could often talk to most United States citizens about God and Jesus and everything else spiritual, and most people, Christian or not would have a good idea of what you meant, and they would be able to discuss it with you. Now, those who follow our Messiah need to actually develop relationships (Oh the Horror!!!) just like Yeshua/Jesus did, and the early believers did with those around them. Understanding the post-modern culture allows us to better engage the post modern culture. Also post-modernism has and is continuing to impact many fields. While I don't agree with the cultural mindset of rejecting objective truths, that doesn't mean the fruits of this culture are evil. That would be like saying we need to fire all our Metro Praise Leaders because they borrow from what became cool out of the homosexual culture. "I swear, the next man I see getting a manicure I'm going to throw something at." Justify that with the Word, I might have an easier time seeing your point.

Finally a fuller understanding of post-modernism would include the understanding that it is the point of departure or reaction from the old way of thinking or doing things. This can apply to art, science, business practices, and many other things, and doesn't necessarily involve rejecting objective truth. While that is often a quick and dirty definition of post-modernism, it is by no means complete, and not always even accurate or applicable. For instance if there is an unhealthy church, with lot's of gossip and other common problems we see among Christians today, and the church decides to chance, as a whole they are convicted to stop using prayer requests as an excuse to gossip, they become a place where people in the community can feel welcome, and maybe even start singing some praise and worship music along with (or instead of) their hymns, this could be seen as post-modernism within the church. No rejection of truth, assuming your truth is God, but instead reacting to the current culture in the church, and departing from it. There are ways this departure could be a bad thing in some churches, but don't blame that on post-modernism, it is merely a description here, if you must cast blame it on the root of the problem.

Not to get all judge-mental, but post-modernism has no place in the Church. The basic premise behind all things "post-modern" is that there is no absolutes; that truth, beauty, what-have-you is relative. It's the idea that if you believe in God there is a God for you but if I don't believe in God, there is no God for me. It is the casting off of reason which is what defined "modern," hence you have "Post-modern" (Okay, so maybe my use of "hence" was a bit pedantic).

Yeah, what do we call it after that? Do we have to invent a new word? I'm going to get tired of adding "posts" to the beginning of eras.

I struggle some with what most-modern means, but found I also didn't really know what modernism is either. Read some of of Francis Schaeffer's works and you will find that modernism is not all that hot either.

Maybe Jon could call this site a parody, which has been ruled by the courts as a fair use of an original idea. (See ApologetiX)
