You know, I almost didn’t buy the Bible once because it didn’t have a picture of God on the cover. All of my friends told me it was still biblically sound despite this publishing faux pas, though, so I eventually caved and got one

This is a variation on my pet peeve – the CD with the artist/band on the cover.

"Yes, we love to walk four or five abreast. Blocking traffic on the street. Looking serious but cautiously optimistic. We are going somewhere terribly important and we are on a mission."

Or an alternative: "You just caught us in an unguarded moment sitting on our fav comfy sofa. We have the mischievous one, the laughing-out-loud one, the smart stylish one, and the serious but cautiously optimistic one. We sit here when we're not blocking traffic."

Solo artist: "This is my face, and this is my instrument. Guess which I love more."

It just doesn't bode well.

excellent point! I also dislike it when the author's name is written on the cover in larger type than the title of the book…

Oh my gosh, I worked at Family Christian and I think I ranted about this to every one of my coworkers. I refused to read any book in which the author is on the cover of the book. I just want to ask "Is the book about God or is the book about you?"

How about the ubiquitous book cover featuring a cup of coffee and an open Bible next to an artistically placed pen. Extra points if a fresh floral arrangement appears in soft focus in the background.

A still life arrangement, maybe…but I never could focus on serious study if there was something delicious smelling good nearby. And I always spill my coffee. Better to do one or the other.
