I know this post is old… but I just ran across it and couldn’t resist a comment. Yes, we had someone read it. And yes, the reader was a “silver medal” friend- someone who almost made the bridal party, but not quite.

I’m a little late in finding this blog as well. But my husband and I decided we were not going to use that passage due to the overuse of it. We used Colossians 3:12-19.

I only just found this post, three years after the fact… however, I did NOT have 1 Corinthians 13 at our wedding, simply because it is so overused. We had John 15, which is not nearly as common. And it was not read by a silver medal friend, but by my mum . We had the classic “cord of three strands” verse on our our program. I was at a family wedding over the weekend, though, and the silver medal friend of the groom read the whole chapter. I love the chapter itself, because it is so true, but there was no way it was being read at my wedding.
I was also reminded by one of the comments about Canon in D – I love it, but again, refused to walk down the aisle to it. I was so adament to have something a bit different I had my friend compose something for me and play a duet with my sister in law

Ok, so no one actually read the verse at my wedding, but as a gift for our 1 year anniversary we were given an embroidered blanket with the verse (and our names!) on it. Maybe it helped since it’s been almost 8 years now. It is a lovely verse, but I agree, kind of overused. Perhaps people need to spend more time reading the bible with their spouse to be and find a verse perfect for them.

oh my goodness. Had my friend Chelsea read this at our wedding. I wanted her to be part of the wedding party, but wanted to keep it small, so I asked her to read Scripture lol

New to the site but have to comment. no idea if 1 Cor was read, but did have slightly cheesy song by Steven Curtis Chapman sung by friend. That has to count for something. And there is an ugly faux sampler (Maybe by Home Interiors?) hanging on the wall in my bedroom with the verse in little flowery hearts. It was a gift from an old boss. Just seems to follow us in every house we live in.
