This is so true! My father (yes my parents were Christians in the 70′s), actually DESIGNED “christmons” or whatever you call the little gold-thread Christmas ornaments that are all bible-verse based. He would read a verse, get a symbol idea, and design the pattern. We keep telling him he should copyright them and make a book–Christians would definitely buy it!

OMG my mom, my aunts, both of my grandmothers, and all the church ladies used to cross stitch. It got out of control. We had cross stitched pillows, pictures, Christmas ornaments, bookmarks, clothes, toilet seat covers, you name it…
I started learning when I wasin 5th grade, but thankfully that trend died before I got very good at it. I think my grandmother might still cross stitch blankets for the new babies in her church.

i work in radio and we had a ministry advertise with us that cross stitched verses on pillows. they actually believed you could learn bible verses through osmosis.

This one's not hard to understand, if you're a craftsperson. Someone who loves to cross-stitch, who finds it relaxing, and who also wants to meditate on Scripture or memorize a certain verse, has the perfect combination of talent and desire. And the end result is something beautiful and functional (in that it helps you to keep Scripture in your mind on a day-to-day basis.) I, personally, have a beautiful pattern for the names of God, which I'm planning to coordinate with a study on each name as I do it. You know, someday, when my children (currently 5, 3, and 2) have all left home.

We had at least two or three in our home growing up. My mom loved them. I think she still has one or two up, actually. I like them because they remind me of her, but it is amusing how many Christian friends homes I go to that have them.

We definitely had Bible verses cross-stitched in my home growing up. My mom did them when she first got married. And I laughed really hard when I read that about your roomie. He must have been quite the character!

The question is (And you may have covered this in a later post, I'm still catching up), but which is more popular: The cross-stitched verse on the wall, or the cross-stitched 'Footprints in the Sand'? I think 'Footprints' wins out, honestly…
