Sunday Summary – FinishYear Week 1

Today marks the end of the first week of FinishYear. (It’s not too late to join FinishYear with us! Here’s what we’re doing.)

Every Sunday during January, let’s share a quick summary of how we did that week on our Finish List.

Here’s my list of goals and the summary of the progress I made:

1. Make the Quitter Conference awesome for people who attend.
This week I launched a special coffee event and brainstormed something really cool we’ll be adding to the conference. It’s a session a lot of people have asked me about for years and I’ll announce it this week. I also created a video explaining the conference which was fun. I feel good about this goal’s progress.

2. I am going to finish reading 12 non-fiction books this year. One per month.
I am loving this one. Last year I started 42 books and didn’t finish nearly any of them. I felt like a continual failure throughout the year. Having only one book to focus on has been really freeing to me. I’m on page 118 of the first book that has 250 pages. I feel great about this one. (First book of the year is Donald Miller’s brilliant “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years.”)

3. I am going to finish running the Nashville half marathon Saturday, April 28th in under 2 hours and 10 minutes.
I jogged a few times this week, which I shared on Twitter. But perhaps more importantly, I got a friend who is a tri-athlete to draw me up a custom running plan. My first session starts Tuesday. I feel good about this one.

4. I am going to finish writing a new book in 2012.
I’m in the idea stage of writing this book. I have some ideas that are starting to gain momentum, but the reality is I won’t really work on this intensely until the Quitter Conference is done. (Which you would love and should totally attend by the way.)

5. I am going to finish a box of thank you cards this year as a sign of my gratefulness.
Bombed this one. Flat out bombed it. I wrote 0 thank you notes this week. It’s a year long goal so I’ve got 51 weeks to make it right.

6. I am going to finish handwriting out the entire book of Proverbs in a moleskine notebook.
I wrote 5 of the 7 days this week and feel good about this one. I think this one might finish earlier than I expected. I’m thinking I might write out the book of Matthew after this one is done instead of Psalms, but I’m not going to rush through it.

That’s my week.

How was yours?
