Longevity is the new sexy.
It’s fun to write your first book, but do you know which one I’m thinking about right now?
My 10th.
My 20th.
My 30th.
Why?
Anyone can start a project.
Anyone can begin to a dream.
Anyone can launch a new mission.
Finishing a project? Completing a dream? Continuing a mission years or decades after the excitement of the launch has worn off? That’s what changes the world.
That’s what makes U2, U2.
The ability to last. To build something that is sustainable and spreadable. To perform not just for days or weeks or even years, but decades.
Longevity is the new sexy.
Thanks to the Internet it’s easier than ever to start something new. You can self publish a book, release an album, start your own non-profit or launch just about anything new with a level of ease unlike any other time in the history of mankind That leveling of the playing field has been a tremendous gift, but the world is flooded with starters right now.
Focus on longevity. When you get disappointed that your blog traffic was down in the month of July, remember that you’re aiming for a 100 year goal, not a 100 day goal. Through the lens of 100 years, a bad July for your business or book or dream looks pretty tiny. And it should. Next to longevity, next to multigenerational dreams that actually change the world, a bad day or a bad week or even a bad quarter looks small.
Longevity is the new sexy.
Question:
What’s your favorite example (band, company, idea, person) of longevity?
