How to be awesome at everything.

Want to be awesome at everything?

Good, then we’re both in the right place, because that’s what I’m about to tell you how to be:

The secret to being awesome at everything is having the courage to be horrible at first.

That’s it.

If you want to be awesome at something, you just need to be brave enough to be horrible at it first.

The fear of being horrible is actually what keeps most people from ever being awesome at everything.

You’re afraid to look dumb when you give your first speech so you never give one. You’re afraid people will hate your first book so you never write one. You’re afraid no one will read your first blog so you never start one.

But guess what? If you’ve never tried something before, you should be horrible at it your first time. No, strike that. If you’ve never tried something before, you better HOPE you are horrible at it your first time.

Why?

Because you want to improve. You don’t want to peak on your first try. You don’t want to write an amazing first book and then regress with each one you write. The first time you ever run a mile better be the hardest mile you ever run or else you’re just progressively getting worse. Who wants that?

Not me. Which is why I write horrible first drafts and sometimes even horrible 22nd drafts. That’s why I cringe when I see videos of speeches I gave three years ago. Ugh, they’re horrible, but that’s OK because the road to awesome always leads through the land of horrible.

I’m on the right path. And so are you!

So stop beating yourself up if you don’t feel like an expert at something yet. Stop quitting if all your plans don’t fall in place on the first or 15th time.

Go be horrible at something. It’s the only way to be awesome at everything.

Question:
Did you ever think you could be great at something the first time you ever did it?
